It was very refreshing to read a novel combining Homeopathy and Art, in particular Dr Paul Gachet, the Homeopath and Artist. It was interesting to be transported to the 19th Century Cafe culture in Paris with Dr Gachet and to compare the struggle to be recognised and accepted by Homeopaths and Impressionists alike. A struggle which continues to this day for Homeopaths. I thought the ending was possibly a little abrupt, I wanted more, obviously room for a sequel here, which I will look forward to.

This novel is evocative, gripping and captivating. I was THERE, part of a story, part of history. I couldn't put it down and, when my eyes closed, I couldn't wait to open them again to continue reading.

This book really resonated with me - not only am I trained as a homeopath but I spend a lot of my time now working as a docent introducing groups to the history and background of art - primarily modern and contemporary. So this book peaked my interest in both of my passions.
While set in the past at the time of the French Impressionists and their struggle to have their art theory and practice accepted by the public, as well as alternative methods to the oft dangerous medical care given at the time, the same issues in both art AND homeopathy are prevalent in today's world.
I also found found myself participating with the main character in working out a remedy...and delighted myself in that we would have prescribed the same remedy.
Having this personal life experience made this a great read....

I became so immersed in the story that the book disappeared from my hands, as I became part of the scene the air, the period in which this story is set. I gasped and frowned and celebrated along with each character. I wanted to start my own revolution in my minds eye, as I felt every movement, every challenge .....everything, all my senses excited. Its passionate, its rich and full bodied, its honest, its human. I'm satisfied and disatisfied, as I want more.

The trailer that introduces the book is absolutely stunning, leaving an energetic imprint firmly planted in my visual memory. A superb piece of cinematography waiting to happen........

I read it once and will read it again straight away.

This is a wonderful book. By that I mean it is full of wonder. The plot races along: I could not put it down. I was fully immersed in 19th century Paris because of the authenticity of Michelle's writing, and her very visual style. Her descriptions are subtle and poignant. I received a rudimentary education in homeopathy, and recognised that this story is very relevant to things as they stand today. The climax of the book is gut-wrenchingly honest - a mirror for our times. Enragez-vous! (And have a jolly good read at the same time...)

I am easily pleased by a book so long as it allows me to slip effortlessly through the page and into the world within. If baulked by defect in dialogue, plot or pace, I skid along the surface and remain in my own world. So far I have tumbled happily through the looking glass and into Shine's Paris and I don't want to re-emerge. Lovely. Just the job for a long winter's night. I especially delight in the author's whimsy, using words much as I suspect the impressionists used light...for their own sake, a dab here and splash there. Clever. My only fine-tuning point would be the choice of title. Good in itself but shared with at least two other books.

This is a delicious read. The prose is robust and has great clarity - and I was immediately engaged with the narrator and his circle. The Paris art world is superbly evoked. I particularly loved the way the author - from her deep knowledge of the subject - writes about the homeopathic remedies. The substances come across as such powerful, distinctive forces that they are almost characters in their own right. Highly recommended. I have just finished it, and intend to read it again very soon. It's that kind of book.
